Half a million foreign tourists visit the Bran Castle each year. That’s not really a surprise. Bran Castle is probably the most famous tourist attraction of Romania, together with Peleș Castle. Both in Transylvania, but the castle in Bran is slightly more popular. El País described Bran Castle as one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. And it’s true. This medieval castle is located in central Romania, not far from the city of Brașov. This is the home of Dracula, well, that’s what they say. In fact the Romanian prince Vlad Țepeș merely passed the castle one or two times in his life. However, the place is creepy (and beautiful!) enough to function as Dracula’s castle, as created by the English writer Bram Stoker in 1897.
Dracula, are you home
No, he isn’t home. However, you can visit the castle and check out the wonderful interior. It’s wise to visit Bran Castle early in the morning, because it can be quite busy during the day. The castle is owned by the Romanian crown. You can check out the belongings of Queen Marie, who loved this castle so dearly. And rightly so: it’s a beautiful and inspiring place.
And if you really want to see Dracula here: there are a lot of stalls where you can buy Dracula items.
How to get to Bran Castle?
You can find the castle after a drive of 40 minutes from Brașov. From Bucharest it takes you three hours. This is the location; and beware of vampires.
